The difference

Why couples hire me.

I get it. I’ve stood on nearly every side of a wedding myself, including as a groom, so even though your story is unique, I can relate, and that helps me anticipate what you need before you have to ask.

  • Family heirlooms, modern gear.

I shoot with top-of-the-line digital gear and drones, and tucked into my bag is my grandfather’s 1954 Leica M3 and the Minolta SRT 201 I learned to shoot on with my dad, two family heirlooms that still make it into the mix on your day.

  • Two lead photographers, not one an assistant.

For my most popular packages, you get two lead photographers, not a primary and an assistant, but two people each capable of running your entire day on their own. That means twice the coverage when we’re shooting side by side. It also means that when you’re each getting ready in two different places at once, you both still get a lead photographer. Each brings their own unique eye but a shared style.

  • Chasing the unscripted moments.

Some of my favorite photos come from the moments nobody planned, like a couple who ran into the sudden downpour and danced anyway. Those are the moments I’m chasing: real, unscripted, authentic, and more beautiful than anything we could have staged.

  • Consider it done.

When something comes up – a loose boutonniere, a gown that needs bustling, I’ll quietly take care of it, so you never have to stop and manage your own day.

  • You’ll forget I’m there.

I shoot with longer lenses, which keep some distance between us, so you stay close to each other instead of close to my camera. You’ll forget I’m there, and that’s when the real moments happen.

  • I know where to go.

Whether it’s a hidden spot in the Colorado mountains, the perfect lake in Minnesota at just the right hour, or somewhere I’m setting foot for the first time. My clients say my superpower is that I always know how to find the light and the backdrop that make a place feel like it was made for your photos. But I’ll let you be the judge of that 🙂

Questions about what’s included?

In their words

Couples who were there.

Real words from Jeff’s past clients, and from his wife, Jen.

  • Jeff makes you feel at ease right away — he’ll guide you on the little things, where to put your hands, the angle that’s most flattering, but it never feels like he’s managing you. It feels like an excuse to laugh and be close to the person you love. His photos are vibrant, true to life, but also romantic and whimsical — we get compliments on them constantly.

    Jen

Jeff’s wife, and his most frequent subject

  • When I was planning my wedding I contacted three different photographers. Jeff replied the same day I contacted him (the other two never got back to me). He took me out for coffee, and made sure he had a comprehensive list of exactly what I wanted for my wedding day.

  • From the moment we met Jeff, we knew he was going to be our photographer. His personality, guidence with questions, and just out right trigger happy camera were what we were looking for. We were able to set up our wedding package, you can pick what you want in the way of options, and that led to our engagement shoot, wedding day pictures, and a Videographer as well. He brought David with him for everything…you’ll get all of the photos you are wanting and then some. The bloopers are some great photos, you’ll want them as much as the rest. We will be back for future pictures without a doubt. The value of what you ask for and what you get is beyond compare.

Vendor Match

This is one of the first steps I have my couples do when they begin their planning.
Start by each of you ranking 39 wedding vendors in order of priority, then compare lists with your partner and build one shared ranking. It shows you where to spend first. Print three copies: one for each of you, and one for the two of you.

Why do you do this? Why photography, and why weddings?

Because I love love. I love marriage, and I love these commitments and relationships people choose to make to one another. Capturing a once-in-a-lifetime moment is something I don’t take lightly — these photos won’t just be cherished by the couple, but by their children, their grandchildren, and generations they’ll never meet, who will get to look back and see their love, this season of their life, and how their family began. I get to capture that in a way nobody else can, and in a way that lasts. That’s an honor I don’t take for granted.

How far in advance should we book?

Honestly, fit matters more to me than timing. Not every couple is the right fit for me, and I don’t take every booking — but when it’s the right fit, I’ll move things around to make it work, even on shorter notice. If you feel like we’re a match, reach out and let’s talk.

Do you travel outside Colorado and Minnesota?

Enthusiastic yes. Travel and adventure are in my blood — I’d visited all 50 states by age 15, I’ve lived in four countries across three continents, and I’ve traveled to over 35 countries. I can’t think of a place I wouldn’t go to shoot your wedding.

What’s your plan if the weather doesn’t cooperate?

It depends on the day. For proposals, we build a Plan A, B, and C together in advance, since I can’t exactly call an audible mid-surprise — I’ve shot proposals through blizzards and near-total darkness and made it work. For elopements, we’ve got more flexibility to shift the time, location, or day. For weddings, rescheduling usually isn’t realistic with guests and other vendors locked in, so my approach is simple: I wait out the weather with you. (Ask me about the time I danced in the rain with a couple during their reception — one of my favorite wedding memories.)

When will we get our photos?

For proposals: a few images within 24 hours so you can share the news, and the rest within about 72 hours. For elopements: a sneak peek within a few days, and the full gallery in roughly 4 to 6 weeks. For weddings: sneak peeks right away, full gallery in about 10 to 12 weeks. These are conservative estimates — I’d always rather beat my own timeline than make you wait past it.

Do we get a second photographer?

For weddings, yes, a second photographer is included in every package. For elopements and proposals, it’s not automatic, but it’s an easy add-on if you’d like one.

Do you offer engagement sessions?

Yes, every wedding package includes one. Beyond great photos, it’s time for us to build real rapport before your wedding day, so I (and my second shooter, who often joins) already know your best angles, poses, and how you like to be directed. It means we hit the ground running on your wedding day, instead of building that trust for the first time during one of the busiest days of your life.

We’re getting married elsewhere but want engagement or elopement-style photos in Colorado — can we book just that?

Yes, happy to. If you’re visiting and want mountain engagement or elopement-style photos, let’s do it. That said, if you haven’t booked your wedding photographer yet, I always encourage couples to shoot their engagement session with whoever will be shooting their wedding, for the rapport-building reasons above.

What happens if you can’t make it due to illness or an emergency?

I work alongside a trusted circle of top-tier photographers, including David Gaston and Jewels Gray, and we cover for each other when needed. For weddings specifically, every package includes two lead photographers, so even in a true emergency, you’re still covered by a full primary photographer.

Do you carry liability insurance, and do we sign a contract?

Yes to both.

How many photos will we receive, and are they edited?

Every delivered photo is color-corrected, and anything you print through me is retouched. The total count depends heavily on the event, a 20-hour wedding with 600 guests and a one-hour proposal aren’t comparable, but as a baseline, you can expect 100-plus photos per hour, guaranteed, and usually quite a bit more.

Can we print our own photos, or do we have to order through you?

You get full printing rights and can print through any third party you’d like. If you order prints through me, I’ll retouch them, and I can only guarantee the quality and longevity of prints purchased through me. My prints and albums are handcrafted in Italy, gallery-quality, and guaranteed, when properly cared for, to last for generations.

Is there a minimum number of hours we need to book?

There’s no hard minimum. Through experience, I’ve found that one hour works well as a starting point for proposals, and three hours for elopements, enough time that nothing feels rushed and you’re genuinely happy with the results, rather than us watching the clock. That said, if a shorter session is truly what’s best for you, I’m glad to do that too.

Do you offer videography?

Yes. I work with a trusted videography team and can provide video alongside your photography.

How does payment work?

A 25% deposit is due with your signed contract to lock in your date; this is non-refundable. Unlike most photographers, I don’t collect final payment until after your event, the day after for proposals and elopements, and two weeks after for weddings. I know how many vendors are asking for money in the lead-up to a wedding, and I’d rather be one less thing on your mind beforehand. You’ll get your sneak peek photos right away, with the rest of your gallery delivered once final payment is received. If you need it spread out, I’m happy to arrange a payment plan.

What do you need from us before the big day?

Two big things: a general timeline (while it’s still a draft, so I can weigh in before it’s finalized) and a detailed shot list for family formal photos. If that sounds like a lot, don’t worry, this is part of why I like to sit down with you over coffee or a beer early on. You’re not expected to have done this a hundred times; I have.

Do you offer printed albums, or just digital files?

Digital files are included with every package. Printed albums and gallery prints can be added to any package, are included in some of our higher-tier packages, and can always be purchased separately later if you’d like them after the fact.

Not sure which one fits your day?

That is what the first conversation is for.

Tell Jeff the date, the venue, and what you care about most and he will tell you honestly which option will best fit your vision.
